I’m not sure how I feel about pornography. By that I mean that I’m not sure how I feel about pornography done by people who are of legal age to do it. I am not ambivalent about child pornography; it is and should be a crime.
I am hesitant to say that adults who want to be intimately photographed and filmed shouldn’t be able to do so. I think, though, that there are a lot of people who want to do that who have bad judgment and who either don’t realize how it could affect their lives or who don’t care until it does affect their lives.
Young adults are the ones that most people who like to watch pornography are going to want to see the most of; they are also the people whose age is almost synonymous with the term “bad judgment” about that sort of thing.
I started to write this essay because I was thinking that there are people who want to be naked in pictures and videos, and who want people to watch them. Since that’s true, what are people who are telling themselves that what has happened to me is ok or something that I deserve actually saying to themselves that lets them think that? Why trick or force someone when other people want to do it?
